Valley of Vision (CD)
Description: The Puritans—men like John Bunyan, Richard Baxter, David Brainerd, and Isaac Watt—were giants of the faith, yet they keenly felt their own weakness. They knew their own hearts, they knew their God, and they really knew how to pray. These contemporary and yet reverent worship songs were based on their prayers from the classic book, 'The Valley of Vision,' with the hope that they will impact your own prayers, meditation, confession, and rejoicing before our Most High God! Many Puritans wrote down their prayers not to be published, but to assess their own spiritual growth and to encourage themselves in times of spiritual dryness. These prayers reveal a personal, humble, passionate relationship with an awesome God, a living Savior, and an active Spirit. Reading their meditations inspires us to pursue the same level of reality as we worship God. The songs on Valley of Vision draw from these prayers at various levels and in various ways. Some use a few phrases from a specific prayer, others develop a particular idea, and a few try to capture the original flow of thought, using many of the original words. We hope two things will happen when you listen to this CD. We trust these songs will make you more aware of God's holiness and more amazed at our Savior's sacrifice for undeserving sinners.

Each one directs our gaze upward to our magnificent God and Savior. Featuring diverse musical styles, plus a devotional from Bob for each song, here is life-changing truth for all ages — exactly what hymns were meant to be. Many of the lyrics on this CD were written long ago by men and women who loved God deeply and wanted to give the church tools for knowing and worshiping Him. So they wrote hymns. We want to benefit from and emulate their example. Hymns focus on rich lyrical content, giving us a feast for the mind which leads to a feast for the heart. The music and melodies may change to communicate more effectively with each generation, but the biblical truths they proclaim remain constant and must not be lost. In an age of individualism and an emphasis on personal experiences with God, hymns remind us that we don't ever worship God in isolation. By their very nature, hymns connect us to that "communion of saints" from every nation, culture, and time who will one day unite to glorify God around His throne. We are honored on this project to join our voices and hearts with hymns writers from previous centuries who looked upward and were moved to worship our great God and glorious Savior.
